The New Year brought a climate that was “oh so cold”...
small hands pressed against the window; tiny fingers unfold. The word of the month was “cold” – “cold” – “cold”! With the change of the weather came runny noses and sneezing… “ah -choo”, “ah -choo” and out came the “Kleenex”. February is another month of fun, love, and squeezes… there will always be smiles, climbing and new works for this Valentine season. More sign language to learn as the babies watch closely… singing, finger plays, and books about “snowmen” will be activities that please us. The month of February is a special time for all at La Casa, as we celebrate our transition from one building to another. Our new classroom is spacious with warm tones of nature… we are looking forward to meeting new friends and much exploration!

Happy New year to all our MCH friends and families!! We hope your holiday season was full of warmth, love and laughter!!
The month of December was a busy and joyful time in the Infant Classroom. It was the birthday celebration month for Eloise who turned “1”. We celebrated with a song, a hug and a squeeze! Happy Birthday Eloise!! We also spent time listening and dancing to holiday music, looking at books about snow and snowmen, and working with an array of materials that were red and green in color. The favorite song of the month was “Jingle Bells” which we really enjoyed performing with the toddlers. We also made a holiday gift for “Daddy and Mommy” with the help of Ms. Katherine. Much thanks to Katherine for all her help! This month we welcomed Wyatt and his parents in to our classroom. It is such a pleasure having them as part of our MCH community and we look forward to getting to know them better. Materials have been added to the classroom to meet Wyatt’s developmental needs and interests. We have been gradually introducing him to our toddler friends who are very intrigued by his size and the sounds he makes. Wyatt seems to enjoy greeting his new friends and we see it in his “smiles”. I am looking so forward to watching the children grow and reach significant developmental milestones throughout the New Year! This month we “bid adieu” to Cole who has entered the La Casa Toddler Classroom. He slowly transitioned throughout the month of October and is now happy to be amongst his older friends’ full time. In fact, he appears to “sparkle” with an enthusiasm as he explores the many interesting works of his new environment. Hugs to Cole and his family in celebration of his transition in to toddlerhood!
The key words in the classroom for October were: “orange”, “pumpkin”, “gourd”, “bumpy”, “smooth”, and “leaves”. Our favorite book was “Spots Halloween” which I read over and over and over. I think “Spot” is our favorite dog right now! We also enjoyed music with Ms. Amy and the fun new songs that she introduced in October. We love dancing and clapping with the toddlers!! The key words for November are the same as in October with the addition of “rain”, “puddles”, “wind”, “turkey” and “thankful”. We enjoy watching the leaves fall to the ground…touching them…and watching them crumble in our hands. Unfortunately, Ms Kim will not let us taste them! “Thankful” is the favorite word of the month. We are so thankful for a community that enables us to thrive toward optimal development… a community that embraces respect, independence, sensory exploration, love, laughter, and friendship. Thank you to families and staff members of MCH that give so much to our community. Have a great Thanksgiving vacation!! It was a great start to the new school year as we welcomed Eloise and Zoe into the Infant Classroom. Both girls added energy, noise, and happiness to our environment!! We spent the month of September learning about each other as we watched each other’s every move, touched each other’s faces, and ate each other’s "puffs". Becoming familiar to a new "routine" and developing "trust" in one another has been the key to opening the door to a harmonious and happy environment. The classroom is a place of warmth and smiles.
In October, Zoe moved to the La Casa Toddler Classroom. We are fortunate to see and interact with her daily because she is right next door. She enjoys hugs from us all! I have added pumpkins, gourds, Halloween books and various Jack-O-Lantern objects to the classroom. We talk about “big” and “little” pumpkins, “smooth” and “bumpy” gourds, face parts of the Jack- O-Lanterns, and the color “orange”. The infants like to place bracelets on the stem of the “big” pumpkin. At circle time, we sing about ten little pumpkins on Halloween night. The infants are thoroughly enjoying themselves as they explore all the new seasonal materials! We are always looking out the window and going outside daily to experience the outdoors. We listen to the rain drop, smell the freshness of nature, feel the breeze on our skin, and see the leaves on the trees changing colors. There is so, so much to learn as we absorb information through our senses!! We love to go outdoors!! |
