The month of February has been a very exciting time of change for the toddlers. They moved into their new classroom and enjoyed talking about just how big and beautiful it is! The child size sinks and toilets have brought a new found independence to the children. They greatly enjoy being able to help themselves. The playground has brought a new sense of exploration and the joy of rolling cars and balls down the hillside. We all love our new environment!
March is a time of welcoming new friends as well as a new teaching assistant to our classroom. Mrs. Melissa is new to our MCH community but brings with her experience as well as a joy of working with toddlers. March will also mean the beginning of spring, which means exploration of changes to the environment outside. Many discussions about flowers and the weather are sure to be had!

January was a wonderful time of welcoming new friends to our classroom. Lots of new smiles and laughter could be seen and heard. The month also brought a focus on taking care of the environment around us. This could be seen in the children cleaning and setting the tables before lunch, as well as helping to sweep the playground. In addition to taking care of the environment there was also lots of talking about how to respect our friends by asking “Are you ok?” if a friend happened to fall or was crying. The kindness and helpfulness seen around the classroom and playground was very prominent.
The month of February promises great changes and excitement to our classroom. At the end of the month we will be moving into our new classroom, which holds so much new exploration and wonder for the children. It will be great to see the children interact with the sinks and toilets that are made especially for them, as well as the wonderful tall windows which will allow the children to gaze out of them. We are very excited to get settled into our new and beautiful classroom. Hope that everyone had a wonderful Holiday Season with their family and friends! The months of November and December were busy times in the La Casa classroom. We continued to cook, work with flowers, and explore new items in our sensory table. A favorite cooking project of the children was making a crunchy granola, which included lots of yummy seeds and nuts. We talked about baking the granola in the oven, and discussed how an oven gets very hot and a refrigerator gets very cold. Lots of language discussions continued to occur about what goes in an oven, and what foods go in the fridge.
As we headed into December the children got excited about the cold temperatures, and we introduced several snow books into the classroom and circle time. A reoccurring favorite seemed to be The Snowy Day, which is a book about a young boy enjoying the snow outside and learning about how warm temperatures will melt snow. The young boy in the book becomes very sad when this happens, and all of the children enjoyed discussing how the boy was sad but became happy when more snow fell. A wonderful opportunity occurred to talk about things that made us and our friends sad, as well as things that made us happy. Now that January is here we are beginning to welcome new friends into our classroom, which is always an exciting time. It’s always wonderful to meet new friends, and learn about what works they enjoy doing. This month will also bring about a focus on grace and courtesy. For our classroom this will mean discussions about respecting ourselves, others, and the environment around us. All of the things that are so important in the Montessori philosophy! The month of October was an exciting time for our five senses in the La Casa classroom! We touched bumpy gourds and the slimy insides of pumpkins. We started cooking such things as cucumber soup and egg salad sandwiches, which allowed us to taste and smell new things. Leaves started falling all around the playground, and we watched them float down from the trees above. Ms. Amy also gave us the opportunity to hear new songs about pumpkins and the season of Fall.
Now that November is here we will continue to work on our cooking and practical life skills of scooping, spreading, cutting, and stirring. This means tasty recipes of crunchy granola, raspberry swirl, and a mango-honey drink. Flower arranging will also adorn our classroom, as well as a sensory table filled with new and exciting things for our hands to explore. The beginning of the school year has brought some new friends into La Casa. We have enjoyed learning all of the new friends' names through songs at circle time, as well as through helping them learn the routine of the day. It has been wonderful to see all of the new smiles and laughter that they have brought with them. The month of September also afforded us the opportunity for some final summer days, which meant lots of sunshine and outside time for riding bikes and having picnics.
As we move into the month of October we are beginning to focus on the change in weather, as well as the sights around our playground. This means doing glue works that involve putting different colored leaves on trees, as well as painting with fun Fall colors. Pumpkins and gourds can also be seen in the classroom, which means lots of scrubbing and washing opportunities. Later in the month we will open the pumpkin up and work on scooping the insides out. The fall promises to bring lots of great discussions to La Casa about weather, colors, and vegetables. |
