![]() Hello Everyone! December came and went in a flash! We were all so excited to begin our winter break and before we knew it we were back at it again this week. Everyone came back feeling refreshed and ready to work. We welcomed two new members to El Salon Amarillo- Quinn and Sage. They have spent this week getting to know their new friends and catching up with old ones (Sage transitioned to our classroom from El Salon Celeste and was reunited with his good friend Mason!). Although we are all very happy to be back in school, some of the children found themselves missing their family. The other day, I noticed that some of the kiddos took it upon themselves to grab their family pictures during lunch time and they placed it in front of them as they ate. Not only was this such a sweet moment, but it showed me that they were able to think of an appropriate way to cope with their emotions. They never cease to amaze me! This week the children have been getting back to their routine (or learning their new routine) so it was no surprise that most of them gravitated to practical life and art. They love these areas of our classroom, they have so much fun exploring all the works available in these sections. Next week we will begin to focus on our brand new unit on the continents. The children will begin to get an overview of each continent and our main focus will be the culture that each continent has to offer; we will also briefly explore the flora and fauna found in each continent. I will be posting parent volunteer opportunities on Bloomz. There will be many fun activities happening in Amarillo and we would love for you to be a part of it! Happy New Year everyone!

![]() Hello everyone, In the month of November the children had a fabulous time learning about fruits and vegetables. We explored the parts of fruits and vegetables as well as their life cycle and we enjoyed tasting different fruits and vegetables each week! Thank you to everyone who participated by providing the fruits and veggies we needed for tasting and for our cooking projects. We also talked about the meaning of thanksgiving and had a fun celebration at the end of the month. In the month of December we are focusing on a brand new unit. The children are beginning to learn about bunnies. We will explore the parts of a bunny, the different breeds of bunnies and we will also focus on how to care for them. We are expecting to adopt 2 bunnies towards the end of the month; the children are really looking forward to it! In addition to our bunny unit, we will also be talking about the different holidays that are celebrated in the month of December. We are looking forward to parents visiting Amarillo to talk about their special celebrations and do some fun activities with the children. We had so much fun in the month of October! The children really enjoyed learning about pumpkins. We focused on 6 different types of pumpkins (Cinderella pumpkin, cheese pumpkin, small sugar, blue Hokkaido, white pumpkin and winter luxury). We covered the life cycle of a pumpkin as well as the parts of a pumpkin and we had a great time carving a cheese pumpkin and counting how many seeds it had! The children also had a great time with our specialists! They love gardening with Miss Katherine, learning Spanish with Miss Courtney and doing music and movement with Miss Amy. They really look forward to seeing them every week.
Practical Life was quite popular in the month of October. The children practiced works such as pumpkin washing, sweeping, tonging with chopsticks and using a screw driver! We took a few trips to the nature trail and explored our surroundings, the children collected leaves and sticks which we were able to use for art projects. We will continue exploring nature in the month of November as we move on to our new unit of fruits and vegetables. We will explore the difference between fruits and vegetables, the parts and the life cycle of different fruits and vegetables and we will kick off our parent volunteer program by doing a food prep project. We are really looking forward to another wonderful month! |
