We’ve had a great start to our New Year here in Fuscia. The children have been working on grace and courtesy, respecting ourselves and others, as well as many discussions about emotions and feelings. The toddlers enjoyed reading books and looking at pictures of faces and discussing different emotions and feelings. Watering the plants and table scrubbing were another popular activity this month.
In the month of February we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day the toddler way. The toddlers will each bring in a fruit to put into the friendship fruit salad. They will spend the morning chopping, peeling, stirring and mixing up a wonderful fruit salad to share! There are several heart themed works out in the classroom such as a heart color matching work and heart shaped paper to color on.

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful Winter Break with their family and friends! In December the toddlers enjoyed working on their special winter gifts for their families. They were excited to bring them home! During December they enjoyed using glitter and glue to decorate snowflakes.
The month of January always brings new faces to the toddler program. This is such an exciting time for the toddlers as they meet new friends and help them learn the routine of the day. This month we will be focusing on math. The toddlers will be working on counting, telling the difference between the quantity of one and two, and distinguishing the difference between small, medium and large. The toddlers of Fucsia had a busy month in November! They enjoyed a special visit from a police officer from the Seattle Police Department. The lights, sirens and uniform were a big hit! We also began our weekly visits from the elementary students. The toddlers enjoyed listening to all of the stories as well as spending time with their "big friends".
The toddlers started off the month of December working on a special gift to take home to their families. They will be exploring the different feelings of hot and cold as well as exploring new items in our sensory tub and art center. The end of the month brings winter vacation and a wonderful time to spend with family. The weather in October gave us plenty of opportunities for bundling up! Raking leaves into a giant pile and jumping into them was a favorite outside activity! Inside the classroom the toddlers enjoyed sorting gourds and pumpkins, painting and scrubbing pumpkins, working with ghost stickers and scooping and pouring black beans. Opening up the pumpkin on the last day brought lots of laughter and sensory exploration!
In November we will focus on grace and courtesy. We will spend time talking about respecting ourselves as well as our friends and the environment. September was a month of welcoming new friends into our classroom, as well as saying goodbye to friends transitioning to early childhood classrooms. It has been wonderful getting to know our new friends! The change in weather from sunshine to rainy days brought many opportunities for the toddlers to work on their self-help skills. Specifically with the changing of shoes and coats to boots and raincoats.
As we move into October we will be spending time talking about the change in weather, change of our outdoor environment, and the need for winter clothes. We will also focus on some harvest time activities that include feeling and sorting different types of pumpkins and gourds, pumpkin scrubbing and opening up one of our pumpkins. The toddlers love scooping, smelling and feeling the gooey insides! October also brings some exciting events to our toddler community. We will have a visit from local firemen, a story teller, a meet and greet at the park, as well as a school wide Harvest Festival. In the month of May the toddlers spent time working on matching and identifying shapes on the light table. Even the youngest toddlers enjoyed building with colored shapes that light up bright on top of the table. The light table provided so much excitement that it gave the toddlers plenty of opportunities to practice waiting!
The month of June brings warm weather and the promise of summer! The warmer temperatures will allow for water works outside. The toddlers will join us in scrubbing the tables and chairs, as well as washing the bikes outside in the sunshine. What a great way to prepare for summer camp! The month of June brings the end of the school year. We have several toddlers transitioning to the Early Childhood summer camps. Although they will be missed in our toddler classroom it is wonderful to see them so prepared to make this move. In July and August the toddlers will keep to their normal schedules, but will partake in the summer camp themes in their own special way The month of April seemed to fly by! The toddlers enjoyed our walks around campus. Searching for slugs and worms was a favorite outdoor activity. At the end of April we had a special Earth Day celebration. They have been busy using colored shapes to sort and build with. The older toddlers have been identifying the colors and shapes. Baby washing has been another favorite work this month. The older toddlers are following several steps in making sure our classroom baby is extra clean. They start out adding soap to the water, washing baby with a sponge and drying baby off with a cloth. The younger toddlers are enjoying the sensory part of feeling the water and the bubbles. We will continue with flower arranging this month. This activity gives the toddlers many opportunities to work on fine motor and practical life skills. The toddlers enjoyed all of the March sunshine! They enjoyed arranging flowers in vases and decorating the shelves with beautiful bouquets. The older toddlers enjoyed the visit from the Reptile Man.
